Sächer Torte, Sächer Coffee, and the Vienese.
Hallo everyone again, this time i report from Vienna, where i have spent a total of about 5 days in this wonderful city, and have seen some fantastic sights. (The buildings aren´t that bad either). After the fantastic wine tour, which is very hard to top I have done a couple of great things.
I saw the Vienna Boys Choir, and a Mozart Symphony at the Film Festival in Vienna. Which was absolutely fantastic. Even if it was just on film from January this year. It did however look mighty cold so i´m happy i didn´t have to endure that.
However an interesting thing happened to me on that day as well. In the hostel i am staying at this old man (approx 70+) came into our dorm room. He was actually staying the night, there was no way i could make him get up on the top bunk so i offered him mine, and he told all of us in the room his stories on his adventures in Australia, and New Zealand. So after the concert we came back to our hostel room, after stuffing ourselves on Cheese, Bread and Wine from Austria and we all find little presents on our beds.
A Can of beer, and a chocolate bar with a note attached saying “To my southern hemisphere cousins, from your northern hemisphere cousin. – I have always been fascinated about the Southern Hemisphere Donaldo”. As you can imagine this blew us all away, so we wrote him a thankyou note and shouted him breakfast the next morning.
So Friday was full of Sight Seeing and relaxing, and a few drinks at the bar meeting random travellers from Everywhere, mainly the US and Australia though.
Which brings me to today, I met up with Don today for what was meant to be just a casual chat at the hostel, however he insisted he would take me to the real Wien, and i had a Sächer Torte and Coffee with him. He is quite simply the nicest man on the planet, and told me stories all about his past. From Ex Girlfriends, to Being in the Intellegence core in the US Army for the Cold War, to people he has known throughout his life. (Sorry about the quality of the above shot…Guess the waiter had had too much of their own Sächer Coffee
