Ausfhart Germany, Munich you strange city you!
So sitting in one of the cities thousands of beer halls writing this little entry just thought i would update you on what has been happening in the last few days.
Beer is not classed as an alcohol here, but rather taxed, and treated like a normal coke. Its even illegal for your employer to say to you, that you can´t have a beer at lunch, because it is like saying you can´t have a coke. Even children as young as 14 can have a beer with their parents. So really it shouldn´t have been a big shock to me seeing people old and young having a beer at 9am in the morning on a Monday morning. However the best thing is… You don´t get a hangover from Beer here because its natural and there are no preservatives that go in it.
So apart from the Beer obcession, here are a couple of other reasons why Munich is a wierd city. The main park, is full of Naked German people just strolling around having a good time, or playing soccer or what ever they would do clothed. Unfortunately for me and the rest of the general public it was full of Old German Men, who wouldn´t look good clothed! But thats not the weirdest part of this city, there is a beautiful stream/river running throughout this park, with a kick arse current that lets you float down river as far as you want. However because of this current it is so strong that you can actually surf in the river!
Now just up the road from this “surf spot” 500km from the nearest sea, there is one of the last remaining Nazi buildings in Munich untouched by the war, and i stood and sat where Hitler stood trying to start the first revolution. That kind of puts everything into focus.
Here are the Two Surfing Video´s i took!
Now tomorrow i´m off to St Johann in Tirol also known as the Austrian Alpes, then to Venice for a couple of days and then the Greek Islands for about 3 weeks. (Just about to book my tickets for that!) Don´t forget to email me, its great to actually get emails whilst on the road hint hint!
