Lauterbrunnen…Simply Stunning, Oh and the Chocolate!

Sorry about the delay in posting guys, I’ve just been in Switzerland for the last 5 days, and it was absolutely wonderful. I was blessed with the best and second best days for weather in the region all summer long. The Alps were absolutely gorgeous, better then when they are full of snow, because of the contrasts between the Green, and Whites, and all the other wonderful colours.

The First day i spent walking to the Trummelbach Falls. The Trummelbach falls are cool, because there are 10 waterfalls that fall into this one valley, and its the only place in the world where this happens so a very cool site. This is usually a short half an hour walk, however with soaking in the scenery it took me close to 4 hours, from just stopping and looking at the mountains and enjoying the scenery. Absolutely breathtaking and highly recommended to anyone that is going to go skiing in Europe this year, or love beautiful scenery in summer and don’t mind hiking. I also met some Crazy Base jumpers on the first day, who jump off perfectly good cliffs and don’t open their parachutes until about 100ft off the ground. And some of the group that i was with decided they would also do something crazy and Jump out of a perfectly good airplane for no reason whatsoever.

So with that done, and the soaking up of the scenery such a tiring affair, i hit bed early that night, so we could go up to the TOP OF EUROPE. This is a train station in the Jungfrau Region, which is the highest train station in EUROPE if not the world. So being up at 5:30am to go and catch a train up there really was not too much of an issue for me. So the Train ride up to 3454m took about 2 hours with only 1 change, where we played around in the Glaciers up there. Got my photo taken underneath the Swiss Flag at one of the highest points in Europe, and then proceeded to play GOLF! Don’t believe me? Check out the photo Gallery!

After having the best Hot Chocolate in the world, and Pingu getting his photo taken with some other Random Penguins, this signalled the descent down. Firstly to Klien Scheindegg, About half way up the mountain, where I had the Traditional Swiss dish of the Rosti, bloody great too, and then we trekked down this mountain which was more like running down it it was so steep! This was meant to take about 3 hours, 40 mins… WE Did it in 2 Hours and 10 mins but were in pain after that… Here’s a mental image for you, ME running down a mountain for about 2 hours!

The following day was designated a rest day, as we all could hardly walk more then about 10 metres. However the day after that was possibly the most random day of the trip. Firstly i decided to go back to Trummelbach falls to enjoy the best Picnic table in the world, and the view. So I was sitting down there for a while, and then all of a sudden one at a time, these random busabouters came over and chatted to me one at a time. Which was cool, so i started walking back to the campsite with one of the girls, and we were just talking when this girl yells out “Excuse me” which i thought i had dropped something, but No it was her trying to get through on her roller blades. About 100m down the road she has stopped this Random swiss lady trying to control her puppy asking if she can take her photo. She was struggling, so i took over with my Skills. Then we started chatting…

We spent most of the day together just chatting etc, and we liked the same things and our lives were very simliar, liked the same things, were from Sydney etc, it was getting all a bit weird when we did the whole birthday swap. She was born on the same day as me same year and everything. If everyone in the world has a twin, then i found mine! Kinda Freaky huh!

So i’ve had to come back to stinky old Nice, and am here for another two days before heading off to Barcelona!

I agree that the Alps are amazing in the summer, but to say they are better than when they are full of snow is just plain wrong!!!!

Just had a look at the pics of you ‘hitting’ golf balls on the glacier. Is it just me or is the ball still on the ground after you have finished your swing??? Just like the driving range at Raynes Park eh??
